One of Carus Green golf club’s most talented junior players formed part of the winning team at a junior pro-am event at the British Masters. 15-year-old Kirkbie Kendal schoolgirl, Caitlin Whitehead, who plays off a handicap of +2, was invited to play at the behest of the R&A.
She joined professional golfer, Paul Waring, for a pre-British Masters match at Walton Heath golf course in Surrey.
Caitlin was also joined by 15-year-old amateur golfer, Ffion Tynan, who plays for Wales, and 11-year-old Rosie Bee Kim who plays for Buckinghamshire. The talented foursome won with a final score of 28 under par, with the junior players receiving a gift voucher for Adidas.
It’s been a fine season for Caitlin, who won both the individual and team events at the Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championship at Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club in Hong Kong in August.
She also won the U16 European Young Masters in Norway in July and just this week, flew home from Ireland, after winning all three of her matches in tricky conditions in the Ireland versus England mixed U16 international tournament at Limerick golf course. Six talented girls were selected for the championship including Jess Baker of Northumberland, Rafiah Banday of Surrey, Rosie Belsham of Northumberland, France-based Ellie Gower and Daisy Kennedy of Buckinghamshire.
“It was such a great experience playing at the pro-am at the British Masters and good fun chatting with some of the celebrities there!” says Caitlin.
“I’m delighted to have won! It’s been a very positive season and I’m looking forward to what 2019 might bring.”
“It’s been a joy to watch Caitlin’s game develop and grow so considerably this year, particularly on the international stage, and we can’t wait to see what she will deliver in the forthcoming season!” says Carus Green PGA Professional, Lee Edwards.
