Golf enthusiasts from all over the UK, Europe and the USA competed in four days of competitive golf at the Carnoustie Country Classic 2016 last week.

After four days of competitive golf in near-perfect conditions, Michael Wiltse from Segregansett Golf Club in Massachusetts was named the winner of the Gents competition, with Michael Taylor from Silloth Golf Club winning the Seniors and Ayrshire golfer Catriona Findlay from Ballochmyle Golf Club clinching the Ladies title.

The Carnoustie Country Classic was held from May 8-12 on the highly-rated links courses at Montrose, Monifieth and Panmure, as well as Carnoustie Championship, venue of the 2018 Open and the 2016 Senior Open Championship. “The courses in this tournament are magnificent,” said Marshall Taylor from Tennessee, who was competing in this tenth Carnoustie Country Classic.

As well as their rounds on the championship links, competitors and their non-golfing partners enjoyed a variety of social activities, including a welcome reception and buffet dinner at Panmure Golf Club and a gala prize-giving dinner at Carnoustie Golf Hotel showcasing the best of Angus food and drink.

One of the highlights of the week was the Spirit of Angus Tasting, courtesy of Angus drink producers Ogilvy Vodka, Gin Bothy and Glencadam Whisky. “It was fun sampling the local drinks,” said Michael Wiltse, winner of the Carnoustie Country Classic 2016. “I especially enjoyed the vodka.”

Mark Horyna, who lives near Stuttgart in the heart of Germany’s Black Forest, revealed that he was very impressed by the Carnoustie Country courses. “I really enjoyed my Carnoustie Country experience – the golf, the camaraderie between the golfers and the friendliness of everyone I met,” said Mark, who is originally from the UK. “In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I’m signing up for membership of Panmure Golf Club.”
