Having contributed so much to the development of the game, Brigid McCaw, a long-standing volunteer in golf, has been elected as the 36th President of the ILGU.
Brigid McCaw has been a long-standing volunteer in golf. Not only has she contributed to the development of the game at club level but also within the ILGU and the Ladies Golf Union (LGU) which presented her as a worthy candidate to become the 36th President of the ILGU.
A member of Royal County Down Ladies Club, she served as Captain for the centenary year in 1989. From 1993 to 1998, Brigid held the positions of Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary of the ILGU Northern Executive and subsequently completed a full term on the National Central Council in 2000.
A captain and manager of numerous Irish Girls teams, Brigid has always held the rules of golf in high regard and became an R&A qualified Rules Official in 2003.
Her dedication and contribution to Irish golf were highly recognised and following another term as LGU Representative on the ILGU Board from 2006 to 2008, a position as Chair of the LGU Board was offered. Brigid completed two years as Chair before uniquely being elected as the fifth Irish President of the LGU in 2013.
Speaking at the ILGU National AGM the President said: “It is often said that golf is a very individual game but we know it is also a team sport. We are extremely fortunate to have an army of dedicated volunteers serving both at District and Club level. So at the start of the 2019 season – let us go forward as one and embrace with enthusiasm whatever changes may lie ahead. I look forward to being with you every step of the way and together everyone will achieve more.”
Brigid joins three new members on the ILGU Board for the coming year as Anne O’Sullivan (East Leinster Director & Chair of Rules), Mary Culliton (Mid Leinster & Governance Director) and Rita Grealish (Connacht Director) complete their terms. Fiona Scott (Dun Laoghaire), Helen Egan (Tullamore) and Kate O’Meara (Bearna) were confirmed also confirmed as incoming Directors at the Red Cow Hotel on January 19th.
