Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin Secures Spot at Faldo Series European Final

Top female golfer shines at Welsh Open Youths Championship

Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin emerged as the top female performer at the Welsh Open Youths Championship, securing her place at the prestigious Faldo Series European Final in the United Arab Emirates this November.

Her strong showing at Maesdu Golf Club came as part of a new initiative that guarantees both the top male and female finishers a spot in the season finale. The opportunity stems from a recently announced three-year partnership between Wales Golf and the Faldo Series, aimed at boosting gender parity and international pathways in youth golf.

A Breakthrough Performance

While 19-year-old Micah Blowers from Colchester claimed the overall title with a final-round surge, Hryniewiecka-Irwin’s consistent play stood out among the female competitors. Her performance not only demonstrated skill and composure under pressure but also earned her a coveted place on the European stage.

Rising Welsh Talent and Standout Moments

Welsh players made a strong impression throughout the event, with six finishing inside the top 14. Among them were Charlie McKinney (Conwy) and Thomas Richardson (Fairhaven), who tied for fourth. A highlight came from Oswestry’s Harry Matthews, who thrilled spectators with an albatross on the final hole — the first of his career — propelling him to eighth place.

Wales Golf's Dan Fullager noted the high level of competition and praised the efforts of all participants: “It’s great to see a field this deep and competitive, and encouraging to have both our male and female winners headed to the European Final.”
