Guia Vittoria Acutis is English Girls' U16 champion, whilst Margaux Poissonnier takes the U14 crown at Tandridge
Italy’s Guia Vittoria Acutis was crowned the 2024 English Girls’ U16 champion at Tandridge after a tense play-off win denied England Girls’ star Lauren Crump a second championship victory in a week.
Despite there being 36 holes scheduled for the final day, storms predicted for the afternoon forced tournament organisers to reduce it to 18, with Acutis (pictured above) shooting -2 (71) and Crump making 72 (-1) to leave them tied-1st.
Having both finished on four-under-par across their 54 holes, the pair headed down the 10th for the first play-off hole, where Acutis’ approach hit the green, while Crump was just off, and the Hill Valley golfer was unable to get up and down as the Italian’s par secured victory.
Crump, who won the English Girls' Championship last week, was tied for the lead heading into the final day alongside Eva Myers (Chesterfield) but the latter slipped away, while last week’s European Young Masters champion Annabel Peaford could only manage one-under-par (72), seeing her finish in third on three-under-par overall.
Czech Republic’s Barbora Vinkler enjoyed a final round of one-under-par (72) to finish fourth while Spanish pair Amanda Revuelta and Adriana Garcia Terol (last year’s U14 Championship winner), were fifth and sixth respectively.
In the Under 14 Championship, France’s Margaux Poissonnier went into the day 10 shots clear of the field, and despite shooting four-over-par in her final 18 holes, she took home the title after finishing one-over-par overall.
Sutton’s Serafima Taylor finished second on nine-over-par while Iciar Rodriguez (Spain) was 3rd on +10.
