A hybrid is often the best choice of club when you are when faced with a tricky shot on the fringe of the green. In this golf instruction W&G instructor Samantha Head explains how to play this shot.

A putter or an iron is likely to catch the grass when you take the club away, whereas the sole of a hybrid will glide through the grass for a smooth takeaway.

Once practised a few times, this is a shot that can be mastered quite quickly.

The same action and thought should be applied when using a hybrid on the fringe as against the fringe, but with a longer backswing and a matching follow through. The lower the number of the hybrid, the more roll and less loft you will achieve. My philosophy is to use the more lofted club when you are able to do so.
