A bunker shot should be straightforward as you don’t even have to hit the ball! However, many golfers panic in the sand, especially if the lie is awkward. Here’s the best technique to escape a plugged lie.

THINK ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT!

When playing from a plugged lie, keep your weight on the left side (right-handed golfers), say approximately 60-40. Opposed to a general bunker shot, from a plugged lie you must square or slightly close the clubface as this takes away some of the bounce of the club and will help it to get down and through the ball.

FIRM THROUGH IMPACT

Keep your left wrist firm through impact and ensure you take plenty of sand behind the ball, hitting as hard as you possibly can. The ball will pop up and out, but bear in mind that it will have very or no spin so you must allow for this when the ball lands on the green.
