The key to good putting is consistency. We all want to come off the golf course saying how well we have putted, so follow these tips if you don’t want to leave too many putts out there!

STABILISE YOUR SET-UP

The set-up is very important as it acts as an anchor to the putting stroke. Keep your legs stable and shoulders level to the ground. Your weight should be evenly balanced on both feet and your putter should be gripped loosely. Your head should be positioned in the middle. This might seem obvious, but many golfers are left or right eye dominant and have that particular eye over the ball so the head is turned to the left or right.

EYE EYE!

At address, keep your eyes over the ball, but don’t stand too close as your posture becomes hunched up. By standing the correct distance away from the ball, this will help to keep the putter on the correct plane and therefore the ball will roll straight off the clubface.

THINK TICK TOCK

Take the club back with your shoulders, keep your elbows tucked into your side and simply rock through the ball like the tick tock of a clock.

TAKE OUT THE GUESSWORK

Drawing a line on the ball is like cheating, although it’s legal in the game! To not line your ball up to the hole is like guessing a route to a place you’ve never been. A ball aligned in the direction of your intended target is an easy way to get it rolling on the correct path.
