Welcome to the beta version of the new Women & Golf website. Our web monkeys are still hard at work and welcome your feedback.
The course is not a traditional out and back layout. In a similar style to Muirfield, each nine is broadly circular, a loose figure of eight. Commanding views over Pegwell Bay and the white cliffs of Dover
The first hole on this course sets you up very neatly for what’s to come. Long grass faces you off the tee and if you can get over that (and it’s a big if) a range of bunkers peek at you from within the rolling fairways and draw your ball in like magnets. It’s a tough start and it continues on this theme for 17 more beautiful holes.
This is a top championship course and I think anyone over about 18 handicap would struggle with lots of the carries. Having said that the forward tees are very well placed giving a fair and strategic challenge for the player. There’s a great mix of holes and the huge swales and moguls make it a course that you probably need to play many times to really get to grips with. The views of the sea and the white cliffs are wonderful, and the waving long grass is the prevailing view as you look across the course. It’s beguiling and I really want to play it again.
