Daily Sports ladies golf dress

A staple on the tennis fashion scene, golf dresses have been creeping their way onto the fairways over the past few years. So, donned in the Marge dress by Daily Sports, Women & Golf took to the course to see what all the fuss is about.

What women wear on the course – and men for that matter – has long been a bone of contention in the golfing world. Thankfully, as the powers-at-be drag the game into the 21st century, antiquated dress codes are slowly being replaced by a much more relaxed and modern way of thinking: Dress smartly and appropriately.

Which brings us on to the topic of dresses on the golf course. Women tennis players have long donned a dress on the court, but is that appropriate attire for the fairways?

Living in Abu Dhabi in the UAE, I’m fortunate enough to enjoy year-round golf in the sunshine. Move over frosty fairways, hello factor 50. My move from England has seen my golfing wardrobe transform from one of thermals and the odd pair of shorts to a colourful array of skorts and sleeveless polos. And although I’ve eyed them up for some time, I’ve never actually owned a golf dress – until now.

When Women & Golf got onto the subject of golf dresses, I happily volunteered to take one for a spin. Amongst the team we were pretty divided; some said they’d happily play golf in a dress and others said they wouldn’t, with comfort and practicality being at the core of the discussion.

I played a round at Yas Links in the Marge dress by Daily Sports, which retails at £65.00. The cut is feminine and flattering, and despite the size being a bit on the generous side, it was super comfortable to play in. I loved the stand-up collar and the colour – a summery shade of purple with contrasting white edges.

For me, it was a bit long (disclaimer: I’m just over 5ft tall so this isn’t really a criticism!) and I would have liked the pocket to be a little bigger to make it easier to pull out a tee or marker.

My overall verdict? I've definitely found my new favourite summer dress and will certainly be investing in a few more. With a new-found love for golf dresses, I went online to see which other dresses are on the market and found these:
