Women & Golf Member Tamsin reviews the Abacus Lds Pitch Rain Jacket

Review by Tamsin Osborne - Mill Hill Golf Club

I was asked to test and review the Abacus Ladies Pitch 37.5 Technology Rain Jacket (Dusty Blue), which was very good timing in view of what the weather has had in

store for us.

Initial Thoughts

The jacket arrived within a few days. On first opening the package the thing that struck me was that it was very light and the material was very tactile.

The Test

I have only worn this jacket once so far. On a day that was forecasting light rain on and off throughout the day. But, of course, the weather forecast was not correct. In addition to the light rain, it lashed it down for a good hour and I am pleased to say this jacket held its own.

You could see the raindrops forming on the jacket and rolling off.

The lower sleeve area has extra elastic so you don't have gaping flapping cuffs and the drawstring on the back of the neck allows for easy adjustment for a good fit.

The jacket is really lightweight with a four way stretch and I had no trouble playing golf in it.  The zips felt solid and well-made and the pockets are fairly deep which is useful for keeping your hands warm and items don't drop out easily when you are rummaging for your bits and bobs.

The back of the jacket is slightly longer too very well designed.   Abacus claims the jacket feature 37.5 technology to ensure the wearer remains warm when its cold and cool when it's hot.   The temperature on the day I played was around 13 degrees but with the wind and rain felt colder.  I wore a shirt and thin midlayer and I stayed at a good temperature . I did not get that clammy feeling you can get with some jackets.

The Verdict

I give this jacket 5 stars and it certainly is the best jacket I have ever worn for golf. I am pleased with the colour, but then I mostly wear blue.  The quality was very good. I don't like tight fitting garments so chose the 2XL (I would be an 16 to 18 for a top) which was slightly big but for winter wear with layers underneath I think it's perfect.

The price is a bit high (over £200) but on reflection of cheaper jackets I have had in the past I would now invest in a good one for longevity and hopefully this one functions well for years to come.
