W&G REVIEW: PING is keeping the very popular Serene ladies irons and although the Karsten set featured here is not specifically built for ladies, it can be built to suit the typical ladies swing speed.

PING is keeping the very popular Serene ladies irons launched last year in their offering for 2014 and although the Karsten set featured here is not specifically built for ladies, it can be built to suit the typical ladies swing speed thanks to PING’s very comprehensive custom-fit service.

The Karsten iron is constructed primarily for greater distance with a Custom Tuning Port reinforcing a thinner face to increase ball velocity and distance. This marries perfectly with wide soles and a deep centre of gravity to ensure the ultimate playability from every lie on the course.

W&G says: "When it comes to building easy-to-hit irons PING has always been the out-and-out champion as far as we’re concerned. You certainly won’t find a set of irons that are simpler to hit straight down the middle.

The very distinctive large clubhead profile is synonymous with the brand and it really does work wonders at sorting out your wayward shots. However, the chunky clubhead with a thick top-line might take some getting used to as while it’s easy to aim it only just hides the massive cavity behind and at address it looks as though you might carve a big divot out of the ground.

Another plus is that these irons make it simple to play recovery shots out of the rough and the soft brushed finish gives these irons a really expensive look."

SRP: £102 (graphite) £86 (steel) per club
