A Lim Kim is the second South Korean star to win a major tournament with Mizuno irons this year.

A Lim Kim secured her first major win on Monday, beating off her competition with three back-to-back birdies on her final few holes.

Making her first appearance at the U.S. Women's Open and her third on the LPGA one to remember forever, she surged forward by an amazing five strokes in the final round to claim the title.

Following the scores on her phone once she got back to the clubhouse, we really felt her pain when she dropped her phone to the bottom of her golf bag and had to empty it to retrieve her phone...

However, the incident did let us have a better look at exactly what she had in her bag for her major win.

Another major win for Mizuno

A Lim Kim won with the Mizuno MP-18 SC irons in her hands.

The South Korean's favoured clubs have now been replaced by the MP-20 MMC irons. These are 'Grain Flow Forged' at Mizuno’s renowned plant in Hiroshima, Japan, where Mizuno has been forging its irons for over 50 years.

In fact, the U.S. Women's Open was actually the second women's major won with Mizuno irons in 2020, and both were achieved by a South Korean player.

Sei Young Kim also won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in October playing with Mizuno gear.

Interestingly, 50 South Korea players on the LPGA are now contracted to use Mizuno gear.

Chris Voshall, a Golf Club Engineer for Mizuno Golf, said: “Our team in Korea do an incredible job working with players and accumulating wins for Mizuno on the world stage.  Combine that with Mizuno’s skill in producing these incredible Grain Flow Forged irons and you have a pretty effective combination.”

Sei Young Kim's preferred irons

Sei Young Kim's 14-under total at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship set a new tournament record.

The win was completed with a mixed set of Mizuno irons – JPX919 #4 iron and MP-20 MMC #5 iron-PW.

Mizuno’s MP-20 MMC irons are built with a thick Titanium insert behind impact and soft copper undelay – designed to maintain a high level of feedback from such a forgiving iron.
