New from TaylorMade is the M1 'unmetalwood' range – a new family of woods whose multi-material construction has been twenty years in the making.
Taylormade unveiled their new M1 family of woods in Connecticut, USA, following weeks of media hype. Built upon more than two decades of advanced research and development the equipment giant have developed a multi-material combination of titanium and a seven-layer carbon composite to unlock their longest driver and most easy to fit product line in company history.
In M1, engineers have created a line of drivers, fairways and rescue clubs designed to provide golfers with more ball speed, forgiveness and distance in TaylorMade’s first-ever “unmetalwood” family.
M1 Driver
Top of the billing is the M1 driver (pictured above at £429), a multi-material combination of titanium and seven-layer carbon composite designed for more speed, high launch, low spin, and increased ball speed protection.
Fundamental to these features is the driver’s reduced weight, which has been engineered through the revolutionary T-Track system, which slides from heel to toe, allowing golfers to adjust their draw or fade bias by up to 25 yards.
This helps to make the M1 TaylorMade’s most customisable driver to date whilst a 12-position loft sleeve also provides up to four degrees of loft adjustment.
The M1 also has the most effective and visually appealing alignment system of any TaylorMade product to date, with the black face, white forward section and composite rear of the M1’s crown which accordingly aims to be a confidence-boosting aid at address.
Fairway and Rescue Clubs
Featuring the same Front Track system as the M1 driver, the M1 fairway, pictured below (£249) utilises two 15g tungsten weights that can slide easily to promote a draw or fade using the TaylorMade torque wrench. The carbon composite crown allows for 30g of total moveable weight, 5g more than in the R15 fairway, which enables the weights to be split, enhancing the clubs forgivability. The M1 fairway is also equipped with a four-degree loft sleeve, which allows for a two-degree increase or decrease in loft.
Similar to the original Rescue club from TaylorMade, the new M1 Rescue, pictured below (£199) has classic, Tour-inspired shaping that enables increased playability from a variety of lies on the course. In combination with 1.5 degree loft sleeve, the M1 Rescue also features two moveable weights (one 3g and one 25g) that can be set for neutral or fade bias to optimise shot shape and trajectory. Additionally, the M1 Rescue has a speed pocket, increases the size of the sweet spot and reducing spin.
Ladies Shaft Options
Whilst the new M1 range is not equipped with a specific ladies shaft the R and M shafts are suitable for many female swing speeds.

The M1 Driver is offered with a choice of three Tour-proven, premium stock shafts: a mid/high-flighted Fujikura Pro 60, mid-flight Kuro Kage Silver TiNi 60, and a lower-flighted Aldila Rogue 70 110 MSI.
M1 Fairway RRP- £249. M1 fairway is offered in three lofts – 3: 15˚, 3HL (RH only): 17˚ & 5: 19˚, equipped with the Fujikura Pro 70 shaft in X, S, R & M flexes.
M1 Rescue RRP- £199. M1 Rescue is offered in 4 lofts: 2: 17°, 19°, 21° & 24° and is equipped with a Fujikura Pro 80h shaft in X, S, R & M flexes and a 1.5 degree loft sleeve for additional adjustability.
