Anyone else feel like January has lasted approximately 35,629 days already? Well, don’t worry – there’s definitely sunshine (and a safari) on the horizon …

If you ask me, the only way to beat the January blues is to fly through clear blue skies. Yes, it’s time for a holiday! But before you roll your eyes at ‘just’ another golfing holiday on the Med, keep reading, and I'm confident you’ll be pleasantly surprised by these bucket-list-worthy destinations and ideas.

Take a walk on the wild side

Take a trip to South Africa and we promise you’ll be back for more. Start your African adventure on an early morning safari – we recommend the Kruger National Park, home to the Big 5 and hundreds of other wildlife species – and end it with a round of golf at nearby Leopard Creek, host to the European Tour’s Dunhill Championship. From Kruger you can fly straight to Cape Town, where the majestic Table Mountain stands guard. But after dark is when this city really comes alive. Game on!

Hit the slopes

Love to ski but also a keen golfer? The four-star, family-run Hotel Riml in Hochgurgl, south-west Austria, offers the ideal compromise. Spend the morning on the mountains then hone your swing with free access to the extensive indoor golf area, complete with simulators and over 50 different golf courses to ‘play on’. Just remember to leave yourself enough time to wind down at the hotel’s rooftop Sky Relax Area, with outdoor whirlpool, sauna and salt water steam room.

Feel zen

Who doesn’t a love a spa break? A great golf course is one thing, but to finish off a day on the fairways with a facial and a hot tub – well, I’ll be there quicker than you can say “pass me my robe”. And you won’t have to travel too far either. Our top picks are Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa on the Essex/Suffolk border, Ufford Park Hotel Golf & Spa in Deben Valley, and Vale resort, just a few miles from Cardiff City Centre.
